珠江風光 The scenery of the Pearl River

　　 珠江是廣州的母親河。流經廣州市境內的珠江包括西航道、前航道、后航道、三枝香水道、官洲水道、侖頭水道、瀝滘水道、黃埔水道、獅子洋、蓮花山水道和
虎門水道及東江廣州河段等。

　　隨著珠江流域各城市工業的發展、人口的遞增和人民生活水平的提高，珠江受到的污染日益嚴重。廣州市以整治珠江為契機，不斷加強城市水環境治理，取得階段性成效。至2007年，廣州中心城區先后建成大坦沙污水處理系統一、二、三期（55萬噸/日）、獵德污水處理系統一、二、三期（64萬噸/日），瀝滘污水處理系統首期（20萬噸/日）、西朗污水處理系統首期（20萬噸/日）４個污水處理系統，中心城區總污水處理能力達159萬噸/日。還對珠江前航道進行全面截污，減少珠江污染物排放量，重點是對與珠江直接相連的河涌如新河浦涌、沙基涌、赤崗涌、馬涌、小洲村、荔灣涌等進行綜合整治。同時，加強對珠江前航道、西航道、市區內截污河涌沿岸的排水執法。

■Cleaning up Pearl River Project

　　Pearl River (Zhujiang River) is known as Guangzhou's "mother river" as a number of its tributaries flow through the city including West Waterway, North Waterway, South Waterway, Sanzhixiang Waterway, Guanzhou Waterway, Cangtou Waterway, Huangpu Waterway, Shizi Yang, Lianhuashan Waterway, Humen Waterway and Guangzhou Section of East River.

　　With rapid industrial development and increase of population and people's living standards in the cities along Pearl River, pollution is worsening. Guangzhou started trying to clean up the Pearl River in 2005 and the construction of a number of large water-treatment plants did result in some improvements. By 2007, the city had had the capability of treating a total of 159 tons of water per day with the joint forces of four under-construction wastewater treatment plants including Datansha, Liede, Lijiao and Xilang.

　　Apart from the wastewater treatment, the city has also taken measures to stop pollutants from entering the North Waterway with focus laid on the "Chongs" or streams connected to the Pearl River, like Xinhepu Chong, Shaji Chong, Ma Chong, Xiaozhou Chong, and Liwan Chong, etc. Besides, Laws on wastewater discharges have been enforced on the upper and west river waterways and the inner city's streams.
